Thank G-d Carlos and Winwood still ROCK!
1. Over the past 25 years, I've seen S.G. Goodman more than 5 times. His intense passion for rock, salsa, and jazz is still iconic and blatantly exudes in every note he plays.
2. Yesterday, on his 63rd birthday, I had to remind myself just how long he's been such an influence to so many and how thoroughly he's entertained multiple generations of music fans. He remains consistent in delivering his hopes for peace, love, and happiness.
3. The Woodstock message has progressed, recycled, and reinvented as appropriate over 40 years. I was pleasantly surprised that he covered a Van Halen song (Dance the Night Away) and a Cream song (Sunshine of Your Love), as I'm sure he's compared to fellow guitar greats such as Eddie VH and Clapton. Though I suppose he plays what he likes because he can.
4. Carlos continues to take good care of himself and goes on tour to remind us of how great he is and the contribution he has made to music. Overall, I feel very fortunate.
5. That was the first time I saw Steve Winwood. Just like watching Carlos, I was awestruck to see someone who has made such profound contributions to rock and has written and performed so many timeless classics. He looked damned good considering his age, and his voice has no rust, sounding like the studio cuts from the 60's through the 80's.
6. We are so fortunate that he still comes out to play for us.
7. As we all get older, I will appreciate even more if I am fortunate enough to go to another show featuring founding greats from the Who, Stones, Floyd, Cream, etc. Like me, they won't be around forever, so we had best enjoy them while we can.
